Injury Prevention Assessment

Want to learn more about Injury Prevention Assessment?

Did you know that. . .

Scary, huh?

Well, there is HOPE…

Empowerment Physical Therapy specializes in the analysis of movement & injury prevention through the use of Functional Movement Screen.

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) was created by world famous physical therapist Gray Cook as a means to evaluate an individual’s mobility & stability. Consisting of seven basic tests, the screen correlates to movement patterns that occur during training, sports and everyday life. Impairment or imbalances in any one of these movement patterns can decrease an individual’s function and performance and significantly increase their risk of injury.

Who is the Movement Screen for?

This program is designed for active individuals who are looking to restore muscular imbalances between the left & right in order to avoid future or chronic injuries. The FMS system has been implemented with groups ranging from civil service workers and major corporate wellness plans to US Armed Forces and professional sports teams.

How long does it take and what do we do?

Sessions run approximately 30-45 minutes in length. During that time you will be asked to perform a series of simple movement patterns in order to assess your function. Based on your results, you will be given a specific 6-8 weeks program to correct your dysfunction & imbalance. Your movement will be reassessed at midpoint and at the end of the program. The exercises in the program take approximately 10 minutes per day, and require minimal space and little to no equipment.

What happens after the program?

It is recommended that you come in for a “check-up” every 6 months, similar to your dental visits. If you should need additional assistance, options can be made available for continuing one-on-one sessions.
